The Department was founded as Volunteer in 1948 when the Town became incorporated. It has remained a Volunteer Department until June of 2007 after the emergency response call volume for the town became overwhelming. It was decided by the members of the Volunteer Department and the Town Government that a Career Staff was needed to assist the Volunteers and the Community.
The Department became a Combination Department in June of 2007 when John A. Estrada was hired as the Fire Chief. He has now begun the steps of changing the Department to add Career Staff to assist the Volunteers.
